In this insightful episode, I was joined by business and life guide Mel McSherry to explore the transformative potential of Human Design in the world of entrepreneurship. Together, we unpack how aligning with your unique energetic blueprint can dramatically shift how you work, make decisions, and grow your business.
I also shared my personal journey as a Projector with Splenic Authority, revealing how Human Design has helped me create a business that honors my energy and intuition. Whether you’re a seasoned entrepreneur or just starting out, this episode offers practical tools and fresh perspectives to help you run your business your way.
KEY TAKEAWAYS COVERED IN THE PODCAST
- Aligning Your Business with Your Energy Increases Flow and Success
Understanding your Human Design type helps you create a business model that supports your natural energy patterns—whether that means working in short bursts, waiting for invitations, or following your gut instincts. When you align with your design, work becomes less of a grind and more of a flow.
- Decision-Making Improves When You Honor Your Authority
My experience with splenic authority highlights how powerful it is to trust your body’s intuition. Whether your authority is emotional, sacral, or splenic, honoring it leads to more confident and aligned decisions in both business and life.
- Rest and Customization Are Not Optional—They’re Strategic
Traditional business hustle doesn’t work for everyone. For types like Projectors, rest is not laziness—it’s essential. Customizing your business strategy based on your Human Design can lead to greater sustainability, creativity, and long-term impact.

Teresa: Have you ever wondered why certain business strategies feel amazing for some people, but make you want to run and hide or you thrive in some situations that other people would hate? Well, today on the podcast, we are diving into human design, and if you’ve not come across human design before, it’s not just another personality test.
It can actually help you understand how you like to show up and work in your business, what energizes you and how you can work so you don’t burn out.
Hello and welcome back to another episode of the Your Dream Business Podcast. As always, I’m your host with Heath Wearing. Today we have an interview and I’m going to give you a slight woo warning, okay?
And what I mean by that is the interview today we are talking about human design. Now, some of you might know what that is and think, awesome. Can’t wait to listen to this episode. Some of you might know what it is and go, that is not my bag. And some of you might not know what it is and go, we’ll see. It is more on the woo side.
Now. Can I just say I, well one, I don’t like the word woo, but anyway, we’ll get over that. [00:02:00] Can I say that I had, I used to have, when I was doing a lot more mindset stuff in, in the business, I used to have a lot more of this kind of stuff on the podcast, and I recorded some episodes of people who were more spiritual and talked about spiritual stuff, and I actually didn’t put the episodes out.
Now, the reason I didn’t put those episodes out were because when I came to do the hook, I couldn’t find a good reason for you to listen to the episode, and that is really important for me. I know you are very busy. You have a million podcast that you can listen to and you’ve chose to listen to mine, and I am eternally grateful for that.
And I never want to waste your time. I never want to put an episode out, even though we do an episode every single week, I never want to put an episode out that I’m like, nah, about just, that’s noise. Kind of sums up that feeling. I never want to do that. [00:03:00] So I’m really careful. And like I said, I had recorded some episodes that spiritually were very spiritual.
I really enjoyed the episode and recording it, and I found it really interesting. But when I went back to, listen, I didn’t. I didn’t get anything. There was nothing that I could pull out of that episode to go listen to this ’cause this is brilliant. So I kind of steered away from it. Anyway, when I got approached by, and I can’t remember whether Mel, the woman that’s coming on today approached me directly or whether it was like through an agency or whatever.
But when I got approached for Mel’s and I listened, ’cause I, when people apply to come on my podcast, I go and listen to podcasts that they’ve been on to see what I think. I just really fell in love with her, like, she’s so cool. I really loved hearing her and even though it is a subject that’s more on the woo side, she’s so cool and down to earth and like.
Really just the way she talks about this stuff is really, really cool. And I just knew I had to have her on and she didn’t disappoint, and I love the episode [00:04:00] and she is really cool. Like, I really, really like this woman. So there’s your woo warning. Okay, it is a little bit woo at times. Now your second kind of piece of information that you might need to know is as a podcast host.
I sometimes, well, it’s because it’s my podcast that I get to speak to people. I get to pick their brain about stuff specific to me. Now, I try really hard to make sure, again, that I want good episodes. I want you to get a lot from it. I almost couldn’t help myself of like, right here is my chart, here is my human design.
What does this mean about me and my business? So I’m gonna apologize now in advance that basically I did pick a brain about my human design. However, I am hoping that this translates as a really good example of. This is how human design works with you running a business and what it means for you running a business.
So rather than just talking theory of if you were this human design, [00:05:00] then you might wanna show up like this, or you might wanna run your business like this. I am as always an open book, very vulnerable, very honest about me and my business, and. She explains to me how my human design and my business kind of fit and where they don’t fit and that sort of stuff.
So I love this episode. I think it’s really cool. I think Mel is ace. I love her to bits. Really enjoyed having this conversation. Also, just so you know, I, she goes through my chart, we explain how to get your chart and all that sort of stuff. So, and I, I almost don’t wanna tell you too much here ’cause I’m not the expert and I will no doubt mess it up, but I actually put a copy of my chart in the show notes. So if you are so inclined and interested to see what it looks like or you know, human design and you are interested in what mine says, my chart is actually the show notes. So if you head over to teresaheathwareing.com/415.
Slash the numbers 4 1 5 as in adding in the words the numbers just forward slash 4 1 5. I’m sure I didn’t need to explain that, but just in case then [00:06:00] you can see my chart. There’s a copy of my chart in the show notes just in case that’s of interest to you. Mel is an international business and life guide and helps, inspired yet overwhelmed entrepreneurs honor their lives and become the architects of their own success.
Mel has been an entrepreneur since 2010, has launched two successful businesses, become a two times published author, and has spoken over 200 plus times all over the USA and overseas and has created a true life by design. I know you’re gonna love Mel and this episode. Can’t wait to hear what you think.
Without further ado, here’s Mel. Mel, welcome to the podcast.
Mel: Thank you so much, Teresa. I’m so excited to be here.
Teresa: Well, we’ve already been chatting, so I am very excited because I am confident we are gonna have such an interesting conversation. It also might be a conversation that someone might not ever have heard of.
Mm-hmm. And I think what I. The reason I [00:07:00] bring things to the podcast is one for my own keen interest and to pick the brains of someone who’s an expert on something that maybe I wouldn’t get access to. And secondly, just to bring things for people to go. Okay. That’s interesting. Mm-hmm. And like maybe they get something for it, maybe they don’t, but like, just to present something to you so.
We are talking about human design.
Mel: Yeah.
Teresa: And someone will either be sat there going, oh great, I know what that is. Or someone is like, what on earth are you talking about? So let’s just start off with the basic, what is human design?
Mel: So human design is a system that has been brought together by utilizing five different modalities.
So we have astrology. I Ching, Chakras, Kabbalah, and quantum physics. And what it does is it shows you your energetic blueprint. It’s also coined to the science of differentiation. And I love that because it shows you how profitable, and when I say profitable, it’s always threefold mentally, emotionally, and financially.
Okay. But it shows you how [00:08:00] profitable you are as yourself, and it is such a beautiful tool for you to have, because it’s your operations manual. It shows you how much energy you have, where your energy comes from, how to make your best, most profitable decisions, how to create your most, you know, fluid and easeful processes to create what you want.
It gives you the why behind your how. And really clears out a lot of the noise of the shoulds of the I, you know, the, I need to, all of the things that can tend to disrupt us from creating the business, the money, and the life that we want.
Teresa: So I went to write down where it came from and I couldn’t even spell half the things.
So we won’t even worry about that. I’ll just go tick. Great. There you go. So when we, so actually firstly, why did you get into it? Because it’s quite, I’ve only heard of it a couple of times and the people I’ve heard it from are very, I don’t even know how to describe it. [00:09:00] Spiritual. Mm-hmm. Woo. Like whatever it is.
Mm-hmm. I don’t know what the, the all encompassing word for it, but what made you even come into it in the first place?
Mel: It actually found me and it found me twice, which is really interesting.
Teresa: Oh, when it did that.
Mel: I know because it found me. Hello. The person it found me. Well, and we were, we were kind of discussing this in the dream a little bit about how you hear something and you go, oh yeah, that’s great.
And then you kind of move on. Mm-hmm. So it first found me, actually in 2017, I was starting a meditation mastermind with a spiritual coach that I worked with for, for years. And it just came up in conversation and I was, you know, just kind of dipping my toe into the quote unquote spiritual world coming from a very religious background and from kind of deconditioning from that. Yeah. Which is a whole story we don’t need to get into.
Teresa: Oh, I could have, yeah.
Mel: That’s a whole nother episode.
Teresa (2): Yeah.
Mel: And I wanted to find something that was my own, and so it came up in conversation. I got my chart. And all I read was [00:10:00] my type. Now there’s a lot of pieces of information inside of human design.
I call it the ultimate onion of personal development because there’s so many layers to it. And the first layer I saw was my type, which is just your overarching description of your energetic blueprint. And I went, oh yeah, no, that’s me. Cool. And moved on. As I moved on, my business really took off. On paper.
On paper, I was making great money. I was traveling all over the country speaking. I was being flown overseas.
Teresa: Sidetruck. Was your business in this or doing something in this?
Mel: No. No.
Teresa: Was it completely d different? Okay.
Mel: I it. I was in more of the traditional formulaic business coaching world. Okay. Of, okay. You know, pick your framework, stick to your framework.
Don’t get too personal, you know, very masculine, quote unquote. Processes. And I subscribed to that because I thought that’s what was going to provide me the success that I was looking for.
Teresa (2): Mm-hmm.
Mel: And as I mentioned on paper, it did. [00:11:00] It I looked fantastic.
Teresa (2): Yeah.
Mel: And internally I had never felt more honestly inauthentic and disconnected to myself and my business in my entire life.
I was, I would be looking at my bank account. This is it. This is, this is how success, I don’t, I don’t like this, but
Teresa (2): yeah.
Mel: I don’t know what that is. Right. I didn’t have the vernacular to advocate for myself. I just had the financial proof that technically what I was doing was working.
Teresa: Yeah.
Mel: And so fast forward to 2020 and I, the same spiritual coach that I worked with invited me to a retreat in Sedona, Arizona.
And. Human design came back up again, but this time it was from a fellow attendee who was talking about it, and she read my chart with me and I stopped. It was the most validating and confirming piece of information [00:12:00] I had ever received because personal development, we find hooks, right? We find pieces of somebody else’s story that makes us feel seen and heard, which is beautiful, and we all need that.
However, what it doesn’t do is it doesn’t give you the steps of what to do with that.
Teresa: No.
Mel: It just is like, yay, sweet. I feel seen. Yeah. And
Teresa: now what? What do I do?
Mel: Yeah. Yeah. And so, and when I had my human design read to me. As I mentioned, it gave me that validation and confirmation of what I already knew about myself, but didn’t trust because it wasn’t proven to me.
It wasn’t shown to me. I didn’t see it on anything. It was just a feeling. It was just an inclination, and when I saw that report, it not only gave me that validation, it gave me the vernacular to start advocating and shifting how I was showing up inside of my life and inside of my business. And interestingly enough, this came two weeks before lockdown.
I’m located in Chicago, Illinois. We were in [00:13:00] lockdown for a long, long time.
Teresa: Yeah.
Mel: And it definitely presented itself at a time when I would have the capacity and the need to really reevaluate my business, reevaluate who I am, and truly for the first time, honestly. Understand who I am and relish in who I am and make decisions from a place that is grounded in my knowledge and in my understanding, as well as the strategies that are customized to always keep me in that profitable space.
Teresa: So I’m just trying to like liken it to when someone is so confident about something or so. Sure. And the way that feels. Mm-hmm. The way you show up the way. Yeah. So. We have, I coached someone a while back and I’m, I don’t normally swear on the podcast, so I’m gonna have to like abbreviate this, but basically she was doing all the things.
So she was showing up, she was doing the reels, she was doing the story, she was doing the emails, she was putting the offer [00:14:00] out and no one was buying, nothing. And we joked that she had. F off energy. Right. That basically that even though she was going through all the steps and all the process. Yeah. Yes.
Something somewhere was going, don’t buy from me, don’t buy from me, don’t buy from me. And she, we worked together for a, for a while, but we worked together to begin with about like what is going on here? Like, yeah. And that isn’t necessarily where I dig into, but she was very spiritual anyway. And I was like, why isn’t this fitting?
Why are you not confident? Are you not happy? And we worked on the confidence and what she was putting out there and how she felt about it. And it was like. A switch went. Mm-hmm. She was on paper, do nothing different, right? Mm-hmm. She wasn’t, she was showing up in the same way. She was still doing the emails, she was still putting the offers out there, but something, because she’d got so aligned with what she was, who she was, what she was offering, and so confident in it.
Mm-hmm.
She started making money and people started buying from her and opportunities kept coming to her [00:15:00] and it literally was like. It was a bit like magic because she was doing everything on, on paper. I was like, yeah, tick done, tick done. Yeah. And yet it just wasn’t happening. And when we dug into like she wasn’t, she didn’t feel aligned and it wasn’t showing up.
Right. And, and when she put all that better in place, it kind of all worked. So having that feeling and the confidence we show up with and the. The joy in which we take in our work is so nice. And if this is what that gives us, then
Mel: mm-hmm
Teresa: Bring it on. Like let’s do it.
Mel: Absolutely. ’cause it’s that customization that she found for herself, and that’s what we’re not taught to do, especially in the entrepreneur solopreneur space. We are taught to seek the expert. Find that one funnel, that one, you know, 60 K and 62nd magical pill that you just need to throw back up onto your audience and tatar you’re successful. We are not taught to look at other people’s tools and successes and spaces and words, [00:16:00] and. Maneuver those to ourselves to conform them for ourselves, and that’s what human design helps you do.
It’s not reinventing the wheel because we all naturally live inside of our design. I have never, ever, ever had a single readie where somebody goes, I’m sorry, what?
Teresa (2): What?
Mel: Because we already know. It’s again, that validation and confirmation of, oh, I’m not crazy, I’m not lazy, I’m not stupid, I’m not forgetful.
It’s, oh, I’m designed to be in seven different places in once. That’s why every time somebody told me to niche down, I wanted to throw up. Beautiful. Now that I have that. I’m going to start making more confident decisions around that. So it shows you how to utilize all of the resources and the time and energy that you have already invested in yourself and how to hone it in to where it is.
A hundred percent yours, no if or buts.
Teresa: Okay. I love it. So I have something I want to do, right? And this is very selfish of me, but as [00:17:00] I said before we got started, I have done, I’ve had my human design done as in I got my chart. Mm-hmm. So I know what I am, but I think I am probably. Where you were the first time.
I was like, I really want my chart, by the way, to get your chart. You need your time of birth, your place of birth, and obviously your date of birth. Anything else that I missed?
Mel: Yes. Nope.
Teresa: Nope. Okay. And as I’ve already said to Mel, getting the time of birth, it’s quite tricky for me, but took months, but I got it.
And so I had my chart, or I have some details of my human design and I would love for you to go through it with me and
Mel: absolutely!
Teresa: To me about what that means for me. Is that okay?
Mel: Yeah, absolutely.
Teresa: So one of the first things that it comes up with is, I guess it’s the type that, like the first big name, I’m a projector.
Okay. So what is.
Mel: Ooh, same.
Teresa: So first of all, let’s, what options have people got there? Because it’s, it, there’s like a three or four options.
Mel: There’s, there’s five.
Teresa: Five. So what are the five that people can be?
Mel: So the five are generator, [00:18:00] manifesting generator, projector, manifestor, and reflector.
Teresa: Okay. So tell me, what do we mean by projector?
What does that mean?
Mel: Oh, we’re fantastic. And now I’m saying that.
Teresa: Are you projector? I love it.
Mel: I’m a projector.
Teresa: Yeah. I love it. I love it.
Mel: So projectors are about 20% of the population and we are the guides. We are, I like to, to coin of, you know, jokingly from my religious trauma. We’re like the Holy Spirit. We are over everything.
We can see the pattern, we can see the solution. The thing that is interesting about us is that we don’t have a natural energy source. We can technically only quote unquote work two to four hours a day. And that’s concentrated focused energy, right? We receive our energy from others. So if you’ve ever been around somebody and you literally are shaking afterwards, 10 bucks, they were probably a manifesting generator.
’cause they light us up like fricking, [00:19:00] you know, the city of Chicago, we are meant to guide, we are there. The reason why we can see the pattern is because we are there to ensure that people are staying in their alignment and in their best practices. Now, that doesn’t mean you’re gonna be a human design practitioner, but what that means is you utilize your gifts and talents in the support of others.
The other interesting thing as a projector is we have a strategy that’s wait to be recognized and invited. That is typically the kicker.
Teresa: Yeah, because i’m not very good at that.
Mel: No, nobody is honestly like waiting who waits. We’re not taught to wait. Especially for those
Teresa: because I’ve got such a great idea. I wanna tell you.
Mel: Well, exactly right. And I would be really interested to see, just to see, like see your chart, just to see your centers and things like that. But again, we could turn this into probably a two hour episode if you wanted to, but just sticking to your type at, at the moment. When we are waiting to be recognized and invited, [00:20:00] what that does is that actually lets us understand our specific pace.
As projectors we do have a slower pace, okay? And the reason why it’s slower is because we need to learn how to be sustainable for ourselves so we can help others sustain themselves.
Teresa: So this is super interesting because one of the things that i, so I worked and still work with a, a productivity coach. She hates being called that, but that’s the only way I can describe her.
Mm-hmm. And when I am on, oh man, I burn through work like no one’s business. Like I am head down in it, doing it, and then I hit the deck. And then you could literally say, I’d give you a million pounds to do this. And my brain is just like, Nope. And I want to, yeah. I get so frustrated. Yeah. And. And I just wanna sit on the sofa and lie there and just, I’m exhausted.
So is that part of this?
Mel: Yeah. So projectors, we are, we are the majesties of rest. We need it. We need it and rest.
Teresa: I love that.
Mel: This is the other [00:21:00] thing that I, maje I love about human, but I’m taking breath. The thing that I love about seriously, like here’s your prescription. Ta-da. Yeah. The thing that, one of the other things I love about human design is that it allows us to redefine overused words. So rest to me as again, because though we are both projectors, you and I are not the same. Yeah, no chart is ever the same. There again, ultimate onion, right? Even inside of that. So therefore, rest to me is different because I have other restful areas in my chart that need, need rest, like pure rest.
Projectors need rest because we are so what’s called open. A lot of our centers, which are in alignment with our chakras are open, which means we receive energy, we receive information, and we need space and time to deplete that. But again, we don’t have a lot of natural energy to do that. So that is why rest.
Is the way that we recharge. And so we do need to have that in [00:22:00] our daily routine. And sometimes that could be naps, sometimes that just could be stepping away from something that’s business tactical, brain focused, and doing something more creative. Yeah. It’s what brings, it’s what revives that energy for you.
Because we are, the majesty is a burnout. It’s easy for us to burnout because we have no register of where our energy is coming from and how much we have left because it’s not ours.
Teresa: And, and it’s interesting that you said before that we get energy from people, so. A while back I did an interview with someone and he does wealth dynamics and my wealth dynamics and it’s interesting ’cause often with all these tests, ’cause I flipping love a test, I of often they, they align.
Right. So what you’ve just said there about energy for other people that said the same, I was offering quite a lot of one-to-one work and I hated it, like mm-hmm. Not hated doing the thing with the people, but I was exhausted. And you know the other funny thing, when I am doing one-to-one work, I yawn.
Mm-hmm. And it’s so frustrating ’cause I’m like, don’t yawn, what are you [00:23:00] yawning? Put me on a three hour group call. My energy can stay high. In fact, today that I’m on this call, I’ve already done four or five hours of calls mm-hmm. But in groups. Mm-hmm. And I’m perfectly fine, like mm-hmm. Isn’t it funny?
Mel: Yeah. And it’s that, it’s that customized information for you that then you can go, okay, now that I know this to be true mm-hmm.
What are, what are my best practices for me? I, it’s a combination of both. Sometimes groups really overwhelm me ’cause of where I am open in my charts, and sometimes I just need that one-on-one laser focus.
However, the one-on-one laser focus, I don’t particularly like having long engagements with that. So I don’t like having big, massive one-on-one containers. I, I just wanna be available when you need me without any pressure on my end. Or you are in to show up, step in what have you.
Teresa (2): Yeah.
Mel: And. Again, what traditional coach tells you to do that?
Nobody, everybody tells you [00:24:00] to do all these layered, tiered things. Keep them, keep them busy, keep ’em with you, keep you, yada, yada, yada. Yeah. I, again, it worked until it didn’t. Yeah. And then I hit a massive burnout that lasted over a year.
Teresa (2): Wow.
Mel: And it really was my entire nervous system going, okay, we’ve been running on bare, empty long enough.
You are gonna shut down. You are gonna shut up. Yeah. And you’re really going to apply what you know about yourself through your, through your human design. So it’s those indicators for us as projectors that yes, we get fueled by this. And make sure you have an aftercare plan. Like for me, when I’m in large groups that next morning I don’t take any phone calls until noon, like I mm-hmm.
Have a quiet if I’m speaking that night, I’m done with phone calls by 10 in the morning and I have a good five, six hours to prepare for that space. Yeah. And I know I need that. So I create the optimizations, the calendars, and all the things to support my boundaries so I don’t be a human and f it up on my phone.[00:25:00]
Teresa: Yes. Yeah. Yeah, totally. Okay, so the next level down, so I’ve got like 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 words, right? So the next one down says splenic authority.
Mel: Ooh.
Teresa: Like what?
Mel: Okay. You are the third splenic projector who has come into my space seriously. And the last two days I love this. Okay, so. Inside of every chart is your authority.
That is your decision maker. And spoiler alert, it’s never your head. And for a lot of us, it’s not even our heart. Okay, so yours is your spleen and
Teresa: which seems a very odd place for me to be making, making decisions.
Mel: It’s But your spleen, so we talk a lot about trusting your gut. Yeah. And in human design, that’s actually what’s located in the center called your sacral.
We don’t have as projectors, we don’t have a defined sacral. That’s a, that’s why we are projectors is because the sacral is an energetic motor and we don’t have any natural [00:26:00] energy. So therefore, trusting our guts not the best advice.
Teresa (2): Okay.
Mel: But what’s interesting for you is your spleen. I like to coin it.
I’m like picturing it in my head. So your spleen is your instant intuition. It pings once and then it’s done. Your gut or your sacral, is that more grounded intuition. It’s that actual grounded knowing of mm-hmm. You know, that, that just sits, I dunno, it just feels ancient to me. Like I, I picture Sedona for some reason and people say girls, like, it’s just that, that really rooted energy.
Yeah. Your spleen is, is that initial ping. So as a splenic authority, you make decisions in the moment and therefore you make decisions all throughout the day and it could sound or feel counterproductive because something will feel good and you’ll go, yeah. You, you wanna,
Teresa: I [00:27:00] just also, I was thinking about like the decision making energy is hard.
Yeah. Like, yeah. So like. Having that kind of quick decision making, like, I don’t know whether that helps or doesn’t help. I, now I’ve just said that, but yeah.
Mel: It’s, it’s just learning and understanding and appreciating that that is a ping that you are in, that you need to look at something. Okay. So when you make decisions, it’s, it’s, it’s a, it’s a, it’s a layering of all of those pings.
That ping typically doesn’t give you all of the answers at once. It gives you that next piece of information to let you know that you’re on the right path. Right. So when you get a ping that you’re like, oh, but that’s opposite of what I felt 10 minutes, 10 days, 10 years ago. Mm-hmm. Well, that’s because your spleen’s like, no, no new information.
And then you sit for that information. You see how that shifts and you implement what you can implement and then you wait for that next ping just to make sure. It’s almost like radar for your sonar. Yeah. It’s showing you that you where your path is [00:28:00] and reassuring you consistently when you are or are not in an alignment with your design.
And it can feel a little interesting, especially as a projector. So it’s like that. That juxtaposition of you have that quick decision making layered with a technically slower journey and slower process of being. Mm-hmm. So for my, for my splenic projectors, it is more of that, huh, okay, I see this now how can I talk it out?
How can I, you know, do I already instantly know? Was that the instant clarity I needed or the answer I needed because I was confused about X, Y, Z? So it gives you that pause to go, yep, heard you great. Mm-hmm. What, where, what does that actually mean? What are my next best steps for me? And I’d be interested to hear your profile too.
Those are your two numbers, because that usually gives a little bit more. Depth into how you can use your authority.
Teresa: So where would I find, I’m gonna, actually, and this is very unusual for a podcast, but I’m actually gonna share my screen. [00:29:00] Beautiful. And so you can see, and I’m actually gonna put it in the, in the show notes as well.
So, is that what you mean now?
Mel: One, three? Yeah. So yeah, so an investigative martyr. Okay. So this is how for you, Teresa, as a projector Okay. Can utilize your, and the reason why I say this is because, again, everybody’s different. Yeah. So if somebody is like, oh, I’m also a splenic. This is what, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
This is just,
Teresa: it’s way more detailed than that.
Mel: You’re just, you’re just listening in. You get to be a fly on the wall. So as a splenic authority, how I see this as kind of a step by step for you? ’cause I love to make this spiritual, structural for people.
Teresa (2): Mm-hmm.
Mel: Is okay, you get the ping. So the investigator, you then can go, oh, what does that mean?
Or, oh yeah, let me google this. Or, oh, let’s go down a little rabbit hole. Because inside that rabbit hole you are gonna get more pings of, yep, this is the right rabbit hole. Nope, this is not the right rabbit hole. With that said, you are also a martyr, which sounds really scary. It’s really [00:30:00] not. A martyr means that you have to put things into play to experience so you can share what works and what doesn’t.
So if you see it as kind of a step by step, even though nothing works step by step, yeah. It’s that, Ooh, I have an I that I, I get a pull from this. Great. I’m gonna investigate that. Whether that’s an investigate yourself, your system, you know, for you, because you are defined in your crown and your ajna, think it through a little bit more.
And then whatever you have that you can implement, implements. Then you will know more and then you’ll spo you’ll get more information and then so on and so forth. Because if you just sit there, especially for yourself with, Ooh, this is great information, and then you don’t put it out in the world, whether that is talking it out or actually putting it into play or practice, you’re not gonna get the true essence of why that ping pinged the way that it did.
Teresa: So, I, I, I dunno whether this is gonna tie up with this. But this year one of the things I’m doing [00:31:00] is I’m testing, right? So I basically inhale like, because obviously I do launches and funnels and all of that sort of good stuff, but I will watch someone else is like someone’s watching Netflix. I geek out on this stuff and then I take it, and then, and it was funny, someone was talking to me about a strategy that I had, and they were like, is it yours?
I said, no, I saw someone else do something similar. Mm-hmm. And I was like, Ooh, let me pick that apart, work out why it works, put it together, and then teach it and do it for myself. Mm-hmm. And this year. I have come into everything that we’re doing and gone. Everything’s a test. Everything’s a test, and I feel so good about it, like yep, to the point where I’m almost letting go of the outcome, which is.
It’s quite hard in the online space because everything’s about the outcome. Yeah. Yep. Like and especially when you teach this stuff. So actually going, well, I did this launch and it didn’t work, like, but I’m gonna teach you how to do it. That feels hard and not great, but like honestly, everything’s like, it’s a test.
Let’s [00:32:00] do it. Like, and it’s so funny because. I’ve got a couple of groups, obviously I’m, I’m working with and one of them are geeking out on their numbers and I’m like, I love this. Like, tell me your numbers. Tell me how many people I see that, like, did the upsell tell me this, tell me this. Like I just love all of that.
So that kind of, that feels really true and it feels, it’s the first time I’ve really done it this year of going, let’s just experiment. Like, doesn’t matter what happens, let’s just try it. And it feels great. I, yeah, that’s like, it feels really good.
Mel: That’s welcome to your design and right to add another layer to it.
As a projector, we’re not designed to have traditional outcomes. We are here to show others how we can live our lives our unique way, and create our own success. ’cause our signature as each, each type has its own signature. And for us as projectors, it is success. And we’re, but we’re not here to be an actionable example.
We’re here to be an energetic example and a guide of how others can do it for themselves with their own [00:33:00] practices in play. And when you said that you really love your numbers, I love that I have your chart. ’cause centers are the place where I love to nerd out on. But look, even looking at your chart.
Because you are defined in your roots and your spleen and you have a channel in between. You are very grounded in the doing, and you are, you are defined in your crown and your ajna with the channel in between, which means you’re very ground. You’re very grounded in the knowing. So the fact that you have those two very centered and defined spaces, but completely open in in the middle, it is that disconnect.
Okay, so the fact that you have this. You’d love to nerd out on numbers and you’d love to nerd out on the processes. That is your, that is your top half going, yes, ma’am. Please more. Yeah. The doing and, and playing in your martyr ship and in your investigating. That’s your bottom half going? Yes, please. And then the ones in the middle are your more emotional places.
Okay. That really help you receive. I can see why [00:34:00] groups actually are more excitable to you because you do get more emotional information from them. Mm-hmm. Which then shows you how to utilize your defined centers to them. So I’m sure you hear a lot of. Man, I’ve, people have said that before, but when you said it Teresa, it actually makes more sense and it’s because you’re able to really receive their energy and their, their org fields to be really woo wooy.
Teresa (2): Yeah.
Mel: And be able to transmute that because you as a projector can already see their pattern. You now have absorbed their emotional and their energy and you are able to transmute that and translate that for them through you.
Teresa: Okay, so this is making me think. So first off, this all sounds very positive, so I wanna make sure that we go, surely I’m not just amazing all the way.
Sure.
Mel: Oh no, we have our, we have our come up inside.
Teresa: I’m sure there’s some downsides to me. I mean, I can’t think of any, but I’m sure there is. But like, so how do [00:35:00] you, because like, and this is gonna sound really arrogant, and if people listen to the podcast, they know this isn’t coming from a place of arrogance.
I’m really good at what I do and I care deeply. So like in my group, I don’t have thousands. In fact, I don’t have hundreds. I have small groups. I have small numbers, so I get to know them so I can, and you know, again, take my podcast. It’s called Your Dream Business. And what I mean by that is what you want and what is important to you.
Mel: Exactly.
Teresa: Like not the cookie cutter, not the. You know, this is how you do it. This is the perfect way. And, and the key thing for me is saying, okay, what is gonna work for you? What is gonna be the most great, helpful way that we can get the outcome? A, you want that is important to you, and B, in a way that you want to do it, because mm-hmm.
Yes. You could go and buy a course on why Pinterest is brilliant. Why tiktoks brilliant. Why you should do outreach cold like. Everything works. Everything works if you work it, but it’s not for everyone. Mm-hmm. So part of me is sat over here going, God, this is Ace. Like I’m [00:36:00] brilliant. Right. Literally, if this is your first episode, you’re like, what?
This woman is so arrogant. But the other thing is. As you said at the beginning, it’s waiting for the invitation. So how do you as a business owner who I want to make money now, I am very secure now in the amount I want to make ’cause of the life I want. Mm-hmm. And actually that is not multi multimillions like that is really not, I wanna buy a homestead now.
I want to beautiful. Have chickens and vegetable. I have my own vegetable garden like, and I want a much bigger one so I know what that money looks like. Right. Yeah. So I have a really good definitive money amount. Mm-hmm. I know I’m really good at what I do. Mm-hmm. How do I use this information to, like, is it as simple as going, how do I sell?
Like, is it as strategic as that or is it, if I can’t go and ask, or if I’ve gotta wait to be asked, like mm-hmm. How do I go and get the business? Is that too [00:37:00] strategic?
Mel: No, no, no, no, no, no, no. I, this is what I do with my clients, right?
Is how do we take this information and turn it into something practical and Yeah.
Quote unquote strategic, right? So it’s not, you said something earlier and I totally forgot what you said, and I was like, oh no, you’re so close. And I totally forgot what you said, but it was something along the lines of Oh, invited to say to sell.
Teresa: Yeah,
Mel: it’s invited to. You are as a projector. It’s the invitation to share because, okay.
When you share yourself, your knowledge, your Jo Diviv, you start attracting the right people that are just energetically attracted to you. As projectors we suck people in like crazy. I’m sure you have strangers telling you things all the time. Oh, like you just untrained on plane. Literal. Yeah. Yeah. People just start talking to me.
Yeah. Welcome to being a projector. We, we call people into us. We draw them to ourselves without even ha even using words [00:38:00] or actions. It is just who we are as energetic beings.
Teresa (2): Okay.
Mel: So with that said, it’s not, it’s not stressing to sell. It is just to share. Then people see the connection and then they wanna spend more time with you.
So they invite you to be like, I would, can we have a virtual coffee? Or, yeah, I would like to hear more about X, Y, Z. There’s your invitation. Yeah. You’ve been recognized. Now you can go into your magic easefully. Mm-hmm. It’s when we try to make a sale, and this is where, this is one of the things that I had to retool for myself.
You know, I was thoroughly taught to keep them on the phone. Find the, yeah, you have the solution. Do not a, a maybe is a yes. Keep them on the phone until you, until they say yes. And so I trained myself to look at every conversation of where my in is and, and jump in without any sort of invitation because I wanted to prove that’s.[00:39:00]
When it comes from proving you are the same as well, that comes from the open throat, that comes from the open identity, that’s the one in the center. It comes from those open centers that you and I share when instead, it’s more of listening, hearing them and waiting for ’em to go. So Mel, you, you look interested, or you have a like, mm-hmm.
Do you have a look about you? Do you see something? Or what do you hear? Or what do you know? And so it’s just that brief waiting period because if we jump into it. We’re trying to force a relationship or partnership with somebody that probably isn’t the best person for us. We just see, quote unquote, the dollar signs, right?
Because that’s what we’re kind of taught to see.
Teresa (2): Mm-hmm.
Mel: Instead of letting the actual profitable opportunities come to us. And for us as projectors, it’s a compound effect. So the more that you share it, this podcast that you’ve created is a beautiful example of creating a space for yourself where you can.
Highlight others as well as mm-hmm. Share your insight, your expertise in a very easeful, invitational way. Mm-hmm. [00:40:00] And that creates the response. So for those who are generators or manifesting generators, their strategy or parts of it is wait to respond. So when they hear piece of information like, Ooh, they just said this, I’m gonna respond by reaching now, or I’m gonna respond by following them on, you know, LinkedIn or Instagram and get more information.
It’s that compound effect that we create. For ourselves where it may feel like, oh, so that’s, it sounds so passive. It sounds like I’m just twiddling my thumbs and praying to God that something’s happening. No, we are sharing, we are mastering our insights, ourselves, our practices, because. That shows through our energy and our examples and our experimentation, which gives people more insight and connections to ourselves.
And the more that we do that, the more it compounds and compounds and compounds. Brendan Bouchard, who is an amazing author, yeah, he has a quote that I love and I, I’m shocked, I don’t have tattooed on my body yet, where he says, it’s [00:41:00] the little things you do every day that make the biggest difference. And then you wrote the book, the Compound Effect.
It’s that exact practice for us. Projectors. It’s the exact same thing. So it might feel like we’re not doing anything. But then you mentioned this earlier, magically, it’s like, oh, this offer fell into my lap. Oh, that’s now created this offer, and so on and so forth.
Teresa: Mm-hmm. And it’s, and it’s. A hard thing to do, like mm-hmm.
I constantly worry that I show off or that like, because I want to tell someone, oh, this is a great show. You could use this, you could do, and I constantly have to go, no, just like reign it back in for, for a minute. Beautiful.
Mm-hmm. But also, the other thing that’s interesting is I will have people who have been in my world for a long time before I even know they exist.
Mm-hmm. Like it feels like, mm-hmm. They consume a lot. Mm-hmm. Before they then step out and go, yes, I want to work with you. Mm-hmm. And obviously they feel brand new to me. Mm-hmm. But then when I speak to them, they’re like, I’ve literally listened to [00:42:00] every episode of the podcast. Like, yeah. Or they know, my husband’s name.
Or they know I love gardening. Like, because they’ve been taking it all in, but. This is the thing is that it feels frustrating ’cause it’s like, make this happen faster and, okay. So one of the things that I do and that I’m encouraging other people to do is doing the outreach for stuff. Okay. So one of the ways in which the, one of the most important things for online business is that people know who you are.
’cause if no one knows in business in general, if no one knows you exist, no one can buy from you. Mm-hmm. And we have to be strategic about that. So, you know, in cases where people will go, how did you get on that stage? How did you get the TEDx? How did you speak in this podcast? Well. I asked, right? Mm-hmm.
Or I put myself in front of them or I had a conversation. How, if we have to wait for an invitation mm-hmm. Is that something we should be doing? Is it not? And how do we, or when I say we, I mean me, like get seen to be picked up for these things. If I can’t go out and go, I’m ace, you should have me on your podcast.
Mel: That’s a great [00:43:00] question. So this is where. I Another, this is, this is why I love that human design is something that is, it’s meant for you to put into practice and to customize for yourself.
Teresa (2): Okay.
Mel: All the information that you have that I’ve provided to you and that, you know, I may provide to you more down the road if, if that happens, is that, it’s that validation confirmation of, yep, that’s where this is, this is where I’m seeing the pattern for you to release it, to really understand what that feels like and how that actually works for you is to put it into play.
So it’s an, it’s an interesting line between waiting and initiating. Right. I will say this, the wait for the invitation. You don’t have to make it attached to everything. Okay. It’s, it’s, our authority are meant for those bigger decisions. Like those, like, do I wanna buy a house or, I don’t know. Yeah. Like it’s, it’s those major game changing decisions, reach outs.
I always say, [00:44:00] there’s nothing wrong with reaching out. If somebody literally, honestly did pop into your brain and you’re like, Ooh, I just wanna check in on them and see how they’re thinking. That’s not, you’re not initiating anything except just like, Hey, I thought of you. It’s, Hey, I thought of you because I wanna be on your show and I wanna do X, Y, Z, and I see ABC.
Yeah, that’s where you’ve gone too far.
Teresa: Okay.
Mel: So it’s, yes, you can do those initial reach outs of, Hey, I think you’re cool. I do it all the time. Like, there’s, you’re, you’re really cool. Can I, can we just spend 30 minutes together so we can just get to know each other? Pure intention of really just getting to know each other and letting the conversation guide itself so you can have an intention, but when you go too far and have a full on scaled out plan of how this conversation is gonna go and what you’re going to receive from it.
That’s when it goes awry.
Teresa: Okay. And again, when I think back to one of the things that I get asked a lot is how I got Pat Flynn and Amy Porterfield as my first two guests on the podcast. And I did it because [00:45:00] A, I asked if I could go for a coffee. Granted, I did fly five and a half thousand miles to go for a coffee.
So they couldn’t really say no. But I never, in my head the way. I thought this might happen is I wanted to go and build a relationship with them. Yeah. If that went well, when I got back to the uk, I would reach out and go. Is there any chance you’d come on the podcast? Yeah, in both cases, just sitting, having coffee with ’em, talking to them.
The podcast came up because I was already doing solos at this point, and if someone’s listening to their. The podcast a lot. They’ll hear this story many times. That’s so, I apologize. But, and then both of them separately, I met them separate, almost verbatim. Said, you know, are you gonna do interviews? And I said, I am, but I’m really nervous about reaching out.
And they went, well, if I’m on your list, I’ll do it.
So I didn’t even have to ask like because I went with the intention of I just wanna hang out with this person. Like they’re really impressive. I really love them. I love what they do. Yeah. I would love them to come on the podcast, but let me see if I can get a conversation going first.
Mel: And that’s exactly how that works. And again, I mean, [00:46:00] just to give you a little bit of a, of a differentiation between yourself and and me, so. With you telling that story, my brain goes, that was your spleen going, Ooh, this sounds fun. Let’s give it a try. That’s your martyr going, yeah, let’s go. Let’s experiment, let’s see what happens.
And the rest Is your projector going? Okay, and then I’m just gonna wait and see how that plays out. Right? Yeah. For me, I’m in an emotional authority, which means my solar plexus, which is the one opposite of your, of your spleen on the other side of your chart, I, I need to sleep on things. So when I get super excited about an idea or a prospect.
That coin. Full body, hell yes. Still need to sleep on it. I still need to let that energetic wave settle to make sure that I actually actually received all of the information that I need to ensure that that’s the right space for me to be in because I am more open than you. You have four centers defined.
I only have two, so I get a lot of stuff that can coerce my [00:47:00] two defined centers. So to make sure that I’m not being coerced by an outside energy or environment, I need to always sleep on it. And that’s, that’s the same even when I’m stressed out. If I’m freaking out because of X, Y, Z, I can’t just do something to make it better.
I, for myself have to ground it in. I have to be able to release it in different ways. Let that emotional wave settle and then see what I learned in that moment. So if that was me, I would get that, Ooh, I think I wanna fly 5,000 miles. I’m gonna sleep on it and I’m gonna see if anything else actually calls me to that space or any other information, and then I can make that decision.
Yeah, so that’s another way that we utilize our authorities differently, but we still receive the same information, the same clarity. It’s just in different paces and places.
Teresa: So this is, and you know, obviously I’m, well first off, super conscious of time, but secondly, I’m thinking about the [00:48:00] person listening to this and, and what they’re getting from it.
And I think what this is helping me understand is when you do something like this, when you find this information like you, you know, with something like this, I think you, there’s gotta be an interest obviously. Absolutely. And I think lots of people who listen to the podcast probably do have an interest, but also it’s.
It’s that kind of practical connection. That’s the thing for me. It’s like, mm-hmm. I love it. I love all the stuff, but I’m one of these people who, you know, I believe in, you know, law of attraction, but I also understand law of action. Like, you know, I absolutely, I could sit here and do nothing and pray that I get my homesteaded, or I could sit here and pray that I get my homestead and then take some action to hope that I might get it.
Like, so for me, knowing how to take that information and. Use it in a more practical sense, but also like what you’ve just said. So I’m sure there must have been times where you didn’t sleep on it, you took action, and then you regreted it.
Mel: Oh yeah. Oh yeah. [00:49:00] Absolutely. And every time I go, damn it, like,
Teresa: yeah.
Mel: And still, because again, human, it’s still happens. I, it’s not as often as it was in the beginning before I had this information. And I subscribe to all of those one-liners of trust your gut, full body, hell yes. Yada, yada, yada. Yeah. I do, especially if it’s a great mangen, I do get caught up in their energy like, yeah, let’s do this.
And then the next time I go, oh, that and what did I do? No, that was so, yeah, my bad.
Teresa: And that’s the thing. And like wondering why, you know, going in strong and trying to force my services on someone, not that I think I ever had, but like why that didn’t land or why that didn’t work or, yep. Or understanding how.
Just by building a relationship, I get people on the podcast like, you know? Mm-hmm. It kind of really helps and I think that’s the thing of like, we are as business owners, bombarded with a million things and we have a million things to do. Absolutely. And, and exactly like you said at the beginning and like, I [00:50:00] am part of this, you know, I am part of the world that goes, I can help you do this.
I hope and I pray that when I do it, I do it. With full knowledge of who they are and what they wanna do and how they wanna do it. And that is definitely the way I go at things. But anything that helps us get more sure of us, yes. And gets us aligned. Because when, like again, I did a call, one of my calls earlier, someone was saying that they’ve been trying to put their launch together.
They’re feeling really frustrated. They keep putting it off. So out of nowhere they decided to put a retreat on and sold 12 of the 15 places within a day or two. And I was like. Amazing. Why don’t we just do more of that? Mm-hmm. Why are you fighting over here to potentially try and create something that actually maybe isn’t the thing that you are wanting to do, but over here that just happened so easily.
Mm-hmm. Let’s mm-hmm. Lean into that. So I think for me it’s case of understanding these things and going, how can I make that work? So, because I can’t have a whole podcast of me going, aren’t I [00:51:00] amazing? What. Is like, what are my downsides of my chart? Or what have I gotta look out for?
Mel: So I, I would say, well, again, first from a projector perspective, it is that ease to, like, we’re, we’re easy to burnout.
So really creating a gauge for yourself and check in with yourself often because it is easy for us to dis, we actually, we don’t have, even though we’re very connected to our bodies. We do get disrupted by all of the information we receive from others. So we don’t have a lot of natural inclination of what’s going on inside of ourselves because we, we, we get really caught up in others.
And I would say for you, again, with your chart where you are open, you are open and very emotional places. You’re also open in your, in your identity center, which means there can be some. I don’t wanna say identity crisises, however, it’s your identity is [00:52:00] constantly evolving and that can come with some frustration or bitterness because there may be points where you’re like, Nope, I know myself.
This is great, and something will happen. You’re like, well, just kidding. Do I know myself?
Teresa (2): Yeah.
Mel: What? This is the, wait a minute. I spent my whole branding profile title being this type of person, and now you’re telling me. Not really. Cool. Cool, cool. Great. And so there are, there tend to be more, what I like to call energetic hallways.
So we talk a lot about a doors of opportunity, but rarely do we talk about the hallways in between. Mm-hmm. And for where you are open, you. You will have a lot of energetic and emotional hallways throughout your journey. And it’s because it’s strengthening how powerful you are in your third eye, in your crown, how powerful and grounded you are in your spleen and your roots, and it’s evolving it to that next level.
So if you go through emotional [00:53:00] periods or emotional waves, know that they are beautiful and also know. Not all of it’s yours because of where you are open. So take the time to let it out through thinking, through writing, through creativity, or let it out, you know, through grounding through exercises that just really move it to the spaces that are yours.
And bitterness is real. That’s our not self identity. Mm-hmm. Where are the spaces and places where you can just bless and release so you’re not constantly exposing yourself to those bitterness factors? For me, I had to do a massive cleanse of who I followed on Instagram and LinkedIn because something we’re like, well, what the I seriously?
Yeah. Bless them. Great. That means I just need to step away from their space because it’s creating a negative emotion for me. So it’s, it’s riding those emotional waves for yourself, understanding that they’re part of your process, and lean into one, your spleen. Your spleen will show you, oh, go over here.
Oh, do, do this [00:54:00] there. Okay. Thank you. And make sure that you are taking the time to release that energy in ways that are restful and, and cleansing for you.
Teresa: The, again, anything that makes us feel better about us and who we are. Mm-hmm. Because. There is this whole thing of like being lazy. I was Yeah.
Convinced and told that’s real. A long time that I was lazy. Yeah. And I never got it right because in certain places I work harder than anyone I knew. Like, yep. I run my business, I show up, I do all these things. And yet in other places it was like, no, you as a child, I was. Called lazy. Yeah. I always thought I was just really efficient.
Right. Like, you know, and with my husband, I’ll park the closest I can to where I need to get out and do the thing. Mm-hmm. Like I’m being efficient, but it’s so good to go actually, this isn’t just me being lazy. I do need to take this time and rest like, or I do need to work like this or, okay. Again, it’s so funny you should say about like social media.
I mute a lot of people on social media. Yeah. Because. [00:55:00] I get really bitter about stuff like Yeah. And I can get really like hard done by and mastery. I come from martyrs, so like, you know, I have to really watch that. But again, instead of, yeah, anything that makes us feel that we don’t have to beat ourselves up, that we can go, Hmm, that’s interesting.
Like that showed up again. Well, that makes perfect sense because I know more about me and I know more about how I am put together and what makes me be who I am. I think the other thing I wanna say is like when I did initially get my chart. I read it and I, in fact, I had to go back. I, it was actually a picture I sent to my friends ’cause she knows human design.
And I was like, this is my chart. And then I actually sent another message saying, oh my God, I’ve just been reading it. This is so me. Like I didn’t at any point go, well that doesn’t make sense. Like I did literally go, oh yeah, yeah, that is, that is me. But then there’s those points that you brought up today that make me go, oh, that’s more helpful for me to understand me and how I work.
And actually. If someone’s going, you need to get on calls. You need to drive down sales if you, that actually is not gonna work for [00:56:00] me, and I think the more that we can get confident in that, the better.
Mel: Absolutely.
Teresa: Mel, this has been awesome. I feel actually very guilty that I have totally hogged this whole episode.
But hopefully if you’re listening, it’s given you a practical sense. Because I think sometimes, for me anyway, this was so hard to understand because when you see this chart, and like I said, I’m gonna put it in the show notes, when you see the chart, it’s like, what it, it’s a hard,
Mel: yeah, yeah.
Teresa: Like literally dunno what you’re talking about.
So to understand how some of this stuff works is really, really cool. But Mel, if they are like, this sounds awesome, I wanna know more. Where can they come and find you and tell you that they listened to the episode?
Mel: Yeah, absolutely. So feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn, Mel McSherry, if there’s something that you just really wanna have some safe space to soundboard something that has come forward as you’ve been listening to this episode, I do offer a complimentary 30 minute virtual coffees.
You can book one of those at virtual coffee with mel.com or for my spleen. If you’re like, Nope, I wanna a reading, you can [00:57:00] find all of that information on my website melmcsherry.com.
Teresa: Amazing. Mel, thank you so much. This has been awesome.
Mel: Thank you.
